First, I prep and shape your natural nails, then apply a gel base coat and cure it under the LED lamp. Next comes the color base—usually black for mirror chrome, white for colored chrome, or a specific shade depending on the desired effect.

After curing the color layer, I apply a no-wipe gel top coat and cure it. This creates the tacky layer that the chrome powder needs to adhere properly. While the nail is still warm from the lamp, I use a silicone applicator or eyeshadow sponge to rub the chrome powder onto the nail in circular motions.

The powder is buffed and pressed until the entire nail has an even, reflective finish. Any excess powder is brushed away. Finally, I seal the chrome with a special gel top coat designed for chrome nails and cure it one last time.

The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes longer than a regular gel manicure because the chrome application requires patience and precision.

Chrome Nail Maintenance and Longevity

Chrome nails typically last as long as regular gel polish—about two to three weeks with proper care. However, the chrome finish is slightly more delicate than regular gel, so there are a few things you should know.

The edges of your nails are the most vulnerable spots for chrome wear. You might notice the chrome effect fading slightly at the tips after a week or two, especially if you use your nails a lot for typing, texting, or manual tasks.

To maximize the life of your chrome nails, avoid harsh chemicals and excessive water exposure during the first 24 hours after application. Wear gloves when cleaning or doing dishes. Apply cuticle oil daily to keep the nails hydrated and prevent lifting.
